On 2 May 2008, Cyclone Nargis struck the Ayeyarwady Region with devastating force, bringing peak winds and a storm surge of up to 20 feet. The disaster caused catastrophic destruction and claimed the lives of more than 138,000 people.

In the immediate aftermath, employees from Max Myanmar Group of Companies, together with Myanmar national football players, were among the first responders to reach the affected areas. They delivered urgent relief supplies including medicines, food, clothes, blankets, drinking water, cooking utensils, and cash assistance. Survivors were transported to relief camps by cars and motorboats, where they were provided with healthcare, food, and shelter.
